Srinagar, June 13 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Dukhtaran-e-Millat has said that the ill-treatment meted out to its illegally detained Chairperson, Aasiya Andrabi and her associate, Fahmeeda Sofi, and the people who go to meet them inside the Amphala jail in Jammu is deplorable.

The DeM General Secretary, Nahida Nasreen in a statement in Srinagar said that Aasiya Andrabi and Fehmeeda Sofi were political prisoners and not criminals. She said that the jail authorities on the directions of the puppet Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, were not allowing the family members to meet Aasiya Andrabi and Fehmeeda Sofi since Thursday last. “Family members said that on Thursday they went to meet Aasiya Andrabi and Fehmeeda Sofi but were not allowed. On Saturday, as a holiday was announced, the family members were once again not allowed to meet them,” she said.

Nahida Nasreen said that it was deplorable that after travelling more than 300-km, the family members including women and children were not being allowed to meet the detained leaders. “The family was concerned that why the court orders to shift the two leaders to Srinagar were not implemented and that is why they had travelled to Jammu. But since Thursday they were not allowed a meeting and even denied entry to the jail premises to enquire about the status of court order,” she said. The family members are being harassed without any reason, she added.

Nahida Nasreen further said that whenever the family members were allowed to meet, it was done as if they were meeting a criminal. “There is a lot of gap kept between the family members and Aasiya Andrabi and she is allowed to talk to them while being kept in prison,” she said. “No direct meeting is allowed and like criminals, Aasiya Andrabi and Fehmeeda Sofi are allowed to meet the family members at a common place where they can’t even hear each other,” she said, adding that all the criminal remain present there at the common place which was not only unlawful but immoral as well.

The DeM General Secretary said that the detained party leaders were under detention in the Amphala jail since May 18 and were suffering due to poor health condition, extreme weather and the adverse treatment by the jail authorities. She said that the court had ordered the shifting of the two leaders to Srinagar but it was rejected on the orders of puppet Chief Minister. She said, it is pathetic that jail authorities do not even respect the court orders but directly take orders from Mehbooba Mufti.

Nahida Nasreen reiterated her appeal to the world human rights organisations to take strong notice of the continued detention of Aasiya Andrabi and Fehmeeda Sofi and play role in their release. She also called upon the Imams of the occupied territory to highlight during the upcoming Friday congregation the illegal detention of the two women leaders inside the jail.
