Srinagar, June 21 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the High Court Bar Association (HCBA) has said that India is using its National Investigation Agency (NIA) against pro-freedom leadership including HCBA member Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam while flouting NIA’s own rules and regulations.

The Bar Association in a statement issued after its executive body meeting in Srinagar said that Indian government while violating the Section 6 of the National Agency Investigation Act had bypassed the puppet regime and exercised suo motu powers by directing the NIA to frame cases against the pro-freedom leaders and activists.

The statement said that under Section 6 of the Investigation Act, Indian government was bound to forward its report about an offense to the puppet regime, and it is the local regime which “has to determine as to whether the offence is a scheduled offence or not and if so, it has to direct the NIA to investigate the offence.”

Condemning raids against Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam, the lawyers’ body said that the method and manner being used in the name of investigation against resistance leaders were only aimed at harassing and humiliating them to break them psychologically so that they surrendered and stopped supporting the cause of people of Kashmir.

The statement said that some Indian news channels, at the behest of Home Ministry of India and NIA officials were involved in character assassination of pro-freedom leaders and were not even sparing those who congratulated Pakistani team for playing a marvelous game of cricket in the Champions Trophy against India and foolishly asking them to cross over to Pakistan as if Kashmir is their personal property and the Kashmiris have not right to exist.

“They must know that Kashmiris are fighting against Indian forcible occupation of their land for the past 70 years and despite the use of all suppressive and oppressive measures and all kinds of brute force, the Indian military might has not succeeded in subjugating them and forcing them to surrender,” the statement added.

The HCBA members also castigated the issuance of warrant by an Indian court against the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani in a fake case registered against him in1989.
