Burhan Wani’s martyrdom anniversaryResistance leaders issue protest programmes

Srinagar, July 05 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has issued a week-long protest calendar from July 7 to 13 to commemorate the martyrdom anniversaries of popular youth leader, Burhan Wani, and his two associates and the martyrs of July 13, 1931.

Burhan Wani along with his two associates was martyred by Indian troops in a fake encounter on July 8, last year. His extrajudicial killing triggered the ongoing mass uprising in the territory. On 13th July 1931, the troops of Dogra Maharaja had killed 22 Kashmiris, one after the other, outside the Central Jail in Srinagar during the court proceedings against one Abdul Qadeer who had asked the Kashmiri people to defy the Dogra rule.

The leaders in a statement issued in Srinagar appealed to the people to follow the protest programmes in letter and spirit and with persistence. “Burhan Wani and his two colleagues infused a new life in the resistance movement,” they said.

The resistance leaders have called for complete shutdown on July 8 and July 13. As per the calendar a rally will be held at Tral on July 8 to pay homage to Burhan Wani and all other Kashmiri martyrs. Similar rallies will be held at all district headquarters and elsewhere in the world where Kashmiris are residing. The leaders have urged people to visit the martyrs’ residences on July 9. Internet users have been asked to participate in an online “Kashmir Awareness Campaign” on July 11.

The resistance leaders while giving details about the brutalities of Indian forces said that during mass uprising in 2016, over 100 people were killed, more than 18,000 maimed, 2200 blinded, 11,000 arrested and 17,000 residential houses and 8500 vehicles were smashed and ransacked.

The joint resistance leadership expressed deep concern over the continued loss of lives of innocents and said that it was outcome of recent threatening statements of Indian army chief that innocents were being targeted and mercilessly killed without any reason.

They also ridiculed the pro-India politicians for their deceit and said that these Indian stooges betrayed the mission of those pious souls martyred on 13th July 1931.
