Srinagar, August 22 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, traders staged a protest demonstration in Srinagar against India’s plans to abrogate Article 35A of the Indian Constitution to change the demographic composition of the territory.
The traders led by the co-Chairman of Kashmir Economic Alliance, Farooq Ahmed Dar, assembled at the Press Enclave in Srinagar. Carrying placards, they raised slogans against attempts to abrogate Article 35A.
Talking to reporters on the occasion, Farooq Ahmed Dar said that they would continue to make efforts to safeguard the Article and called for hoisting black flags on the day of hearing on Article 35A in the Indian Supreme Court. “We have called for a protest march from Press Enclave to the High Court on August 29 and we will submit a memorandum to the Chief Justice. We also appeal to the trade bodies and civil society to observe strike on the same day,” he said.
Later, the protesters tried to march towards Governor’s House in Srinagar. However, Indian police used brute force to prevent the march and arrested several protesters.
