CRPP demands release of of SAR Gilani, Condemn detention of Gilani, Mirwaiz, Malik

New Delhi, September 11 (KMS): The Committee for the Release of Political Prisoners (CRPP) has condemned in the strongest words the continuing confinement of its President, Professor SAR Gilani at his residence in Zakir Nagar, New Delhi.

The CRPP in a statement issued in New Delhi said that SAR Gilani was being prevented from organizing a protest before the National Investigation Agency (NIA) headquarters in New Delhi against the continuing harassment of the resistance leaders and the broad sections of the people.

Syed Ali Gilani, Muhammad Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq were supposed to join in New Delhi, but all the three were been arrested in Srinagar. “To trample down the right to hold a protest in New Delhi to highlight the continuing harassment of the protesting people and the Hurriyat leadership … once again shows the desperation of the Indian state to not let the larger world know what is happening in the region,” the statement said.

It added, “India is further having its violent run in Jammu & Kashmir through the highly authoritarian instrument that is the National Investigation Agency to foist as many cases as possible on the rank and file of the Hurriyat so as to drum up the narrative of national jingoism as the only way out or the pigeon hole through which the rest of the world should perceive the political aspirations of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.”

The CRPP said the protest was meant to expose this shallow and hollow approach, especially of the present dispensation at New Delhi, of how they terrorise the common people, the small and medium entrepreneurs as well as the traders in Kashmir.

The CRPP while condemning the arrests of Syed Ali Gilani, Muhammad Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq demanded that the continuing house arrest of Prof. SAR Gilani be revoked with immediate effect.

Among those who attended protest included CRPP Secretary General Amit Bhattacharyya, Vice President Sujato Bhadra, Sukhendu Bhattacharjee, MN Ravunni, P. Koya, Malem, N Venuh, Hany Babu and Rona Wilson.
