Kashmir un-recognized dispute, UNHRC told » Kashmir Media Service

Geneva, September 19 (KMS): Kashmiri representatives, Syed Faiz Naqashbndi, Shamim Shawl, Pervez Ahmad Shah, Altaf Wani and Ms Benazir Khan have said that Jammu and Kashmir is a UN-recognized dispute, and several resolutions passed by the World Body have guaranteed the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.

These representatives in their addresses at the 36th session of United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva said that India had agreed upon these UN resolutions, thus making these international agreements binding.

Syed Faiz Naqshbandi in his address said that India was committing grave human rights violations in the territory.

“Under the garb of Cordon and Search Operation Indian forces are systematically killing youth in fake encounters in Kashmir. Freedom of expression is completely snatched. Peaceful protests are attacked by indiscriminate bullet and pellet firing. Internet and social media applications are blocked frequently so that world may not know the violations by forces,” he added.

He further said that India was pursuing its policy to change the demography of Kashmir to defeat the UN resolutions.

The Kashmiri representatives said that resistance leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah and Aasiya Andrabi were being victimized, harassed and implicated in fabricated cases by Indian authorities for their character assassination.

They urged the UNHRC to impress upon India to abide by international human rights standards and allow UN fact finding mission to occupied Kashmir for investigation of human rights violations.

Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, Shameem Shawl, Pervaiz Ahmad Shah, Altaf Wani and Ms Benazir Khan delivered their statements in the UNHRC session on agenda item 3.
