Srinagar, October 02 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Hurriyat forum has denounced the continued illegal house detention of its Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
The Hurriyat forum spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had been placed under house detention even on the sacred occasion of Ashura. Disallowing Mirwaiz from carrying out social, political and religious activities is nothing but a political vendetta on part of the authorities, he added.
He said that Mirwaiz had been addressing religious gatherings on the eve of Ashura for last several decades and he was scheduled to address a gathering at Aalam Sahab (RA) Narwara to pay tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and martyrs of Karbala. “However, due to constant house detention, Mirwaiz couldn’t make it to the venue,” he said.
The spokesman also denounced the authorities’ decision to impose restrictions in 13 police stations converting entire Srinagar especially downtown into a military garrison.
