New Delhi, October 05 (KMS): The High Court Bar Association of occupied Kashmir has informed Indian Supreme Court that so-called accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India was mysterious and controversial, and was responsible for the going uprising in the territory.

The Bar Association in its affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court said, “The instrument of accession is mysterious and controversial. Every election is rigged. India and Pakistan have fought three wars on the issue… Jammu and Kashmir is in a troubled state for the past 70 years.”

The Bar Association said this in response to suggestions sought by the Indian apex court to resolve the issues of stone pelting and street protests in Jammu and Kashmir, according Solicitor General (SG), Ranjit Kumar, appearing for India.

Ranjit Kumar referred to the certain portions of the affidavit of the Kashmir Bar Association, and said, “None of the elections held in Jammu and Kashmir inspired confidence as they all have been rigged.”

The Supreme Court had sought help in finding amicable solution to the protests and stone-pelting in Jammu and Kashmir. In its affidavit, the Bar Association cited the reasons for the continuing uprising in the Valley.

The Supreme Court expressed shock at the submission of the Bar’s affidavit, which termed the accession mysterious and controversial. The court said, “We wanted to know the reasons of protest from the bar body, which is a mistake”.

The Supreme Court’s bench comprised Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice A M Khanwilkar and Justice D Y Chandrachud.

Besides, the Bar Association also asked for a cease-fire, withdrawal of troops, revocation of draconian law Armed Forces Special Powers Act and suspension of pellet guns in the occupied territory.
