Brussels, October 06 (KMS): Kashmir Council European Union (KCEU) will organize week-long programmes on Kashmir at the European Parliament in Brussels from October 9.

The KCEU Chairman, Ali Raza Syed, addressing a press conference in Brussels said, that the ‘Kashmir EU Week’ would be comprised of an international conference, seminars, debates and a photos and handicraft exhibition on Kashmir. President of World Kashmir Diaspura Alliance, Europe, Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood Joshi, prominent Kashmiri leader, Sardar Sadique, and Chairman of Kashmir Info, Mirshah Jahan, were also present during the press conference.

Ali Raza Syed said that photographs from occupied Kashmir produced by a noted French photographer, Cédric Gerbehaye, would also be presented in the exhibition which would continue till October 22 in Brussels. He said that the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Raja Farooq Haider, would participate in the programme as chief guest and he would be accompanied by AJK’s Senior Minister, Chaudhry Tariq Farooq.

The programme is being organized by KCEU with the collaboration of other EU-based Kashmiri organizations and a large number of people especially members of EU Parliament, experts, intellectuals, human rights activists and scholars from Europe, Canada, Pakistan and Kashmir have been invited to attend the programme. Member EU Parliament, Dr Sajjad Karim, will be host of the programme at the EU Parliament. The annual event of Kashmir EU-Week is being arranged for many years and beside it, the KCEU has so far held various other programmes in Europe on the Kashmir dispute.

Ali Raza Syed, who is coordinator of the programme, further said, creating awareness about the large-scale human rights violations in occupied Kashmir by Indian troops is the main objective of these programmes. He said other objectives of the programmes are to make maximum awareness on Kashmir dispute in Europe. “We also introduce new ways to attract the people towards Kashmir dispute,” he said. Giving an example he said, a truck with Kashmir’s colours and Kashmiri songs in a recent community carnival was cause of special interest of the people in the context of Kashmir dispute.
