Gilani expresses concern over fresh arrest spree in IOK » Kashmir Media Service

Srinagar, October 07 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani has expressed serious concern over fresh arrest spree, harassment of political leaders and humiliation by the Indian police during nocturnal raids.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that ahead of call given by Joint Resistance Leadership for peaceful protests on Friday, the police arrested and raided residences of several Hurriyat leaders including the APHC Chief Spokesman Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar, while Hakeem Abdul Rasheed and Muhammad Ashraf Laya were arrested on Thursday and lodged in police stations.

He said that the puppet rulers were creating chaos in the territory. He said that on one hand, humiliating and shameful activities against womenfolk were being sponsored by Indian secret agencies, while on the other, Indian police and paramilitary personnel were unleashing brutalities on peaceful protestors.

Referring to the nocturnal raids, Syed Ali Gilani that said police Thursday night raided the house of Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar at Gulshanabad in Hyderpora area of Srinagar, and harassed the inmates. He deplored that the police again raided in wee hours and harassed the family members despite knowing that no male member was present in the house. He said Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar is a well-known and prominent political leader and night raids are unbearable and unacceptable.

The APHC Chairman denounced the arrest of Hakeem Abdul Rasheed and Muhammad Ashraf Laya, saying that despite detentions, arbitrary measures and harassment, the Kashmiris would continue their liberation struggle till it reached its logical end.

He also denounced the puppet authorities for imposing curfew, restrictions and blocking Internet services, saying that it was a conspiracy to snap connectivity and was also a deliberate act to provide escape route for those culprits involved in braid-chopping.
