Night vigils in IOK to foil attacks of braid choppers » Kashmir Media Service

Srinagar, October 07 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, disappointed at the total failure of the puppet administration to check the braid-chopping incidents, the people are holding night vigils to foil attacks of braid-choppers on women.

Local people have set up teams which keep night vigils and patrol through different villages and city areas. This practice was common during the 2016 mass uprising – triggered by the martyrdom of popular youth leader Burhan Wani – to prevent the arrest of youth by Indian police.

Despite the fact that people carry out patrolling in different areas, there is no success story and there is no breakthrough. The pictures of people carrying out night vigils armed with axes, spades and iron rods have also gone viral on social media sites.

So far, over 50 cases of braid-chopping have been reported from different parts of the occupied territory.

Forceful demonstrations were held across occupied Kashmir on Friday against the braid-cutting incidents.

“The honour and dignity of our sisters and mothers is at stake. This un-Islamic act is the brain-child of agencies to create chaos and confusion among people,” said a protester.
