Demos in Srinagar, Pulwama against braid-chopping

New Delhi, October 07 (KMS): Illegally detained senior leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, has said that he is facing threat to his life in New Delhi’s infamous Tihar Jail.

Shabbir Ahmed Shah in an application moved through his counsel, Advocate M S Khan, to a Delhi court sought its directions to the Tihar Jail authorities to shift him to the high-risk ward. In the application moved before Additional Sessions Judge, Sidharth Sharma, he also said that the jail authorities were not providing him proper medical facilities. The court sought a response from the jail authorities on the application by 13th October. Another illegally detained Hurriyat leader, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, was shifted to a hospital after his health deteriorated in Tihar Jail.

Meanwhile, the APHC Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, in a statement in Srinagar strongly condemned the inhuman attitude of the authorities of Tihar jail towards the illegally detained Kashmiris including Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Altaf Ahmed Shah, Ayaz Muhammad Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Raja Merajuddin Kalwal, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Muhammad Aslam Wani, Shahid-ul-Islam, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Zahoor Ahmed, Javed Ahmed, Nazir Ahmed and journalist Kamran Yousuf.

A large number of people, mostly women, held forceful demonstrations in Srinagar and Pulwama areas against the increasing incidents of braid-chopping. Three incidents of braid-cutting were reported from Srinagar and Pulwama areas, today. The students of Women’s College Maulana Azad Road, Srinagar, also held a demonstration against the incidents of braid-cutting in the territory. Police uniform was recovered from the bag of a person who was caught by the people while he was attempting to chop the braid of a woman in Noorabad area of Kulgam district. Locals said that suddenly Indian Army personnel appeared on the scene and took the person along after subjecting the people to brute force.

The agents of Indian secret agencies in a new method of state terrorism to create a sense of insecurity and fear-psychosis among the masses spray some chemical on the face of women to make them unconscious and then cut their braids. More than sixty such incidents have been reported from across the occupied territory during the past few weeks.

On the other hand, the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has called for complete shutdown in the territory on Monday to protest against the unabated braid-cutting incidents.

A youth was injured after Indian troops fired upon him without any reason at Balnoi in Mendher area of Poonch district. The family members of the youth Muhammad Yasir told media that they were busy in cutting grass for cattle in their fields when a bullet hit Yasir and he fell down.

Complete shutdown was observed in Islamabad town while traders staged a sit-in protest, today, against the atrocities of Indian police. The protesting traders said that the police lobbed teargas shells inside their shops at Reshi Bazar during anti-India demonstrations, yesterday.
