Hurriyat leaders detained, Srinagar Jamia Majid sealed

Srinagar, October 13 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, people including women staged massive demonstrations across the territory, today, to protest against the incessant braid-chopping incidents. Several people were injured due to the use of brute force by Indian police and troops on protesters.

Call for the demonstrations was given by the Joint Resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik. The puppet authorities imposed restrictions in Srinagar and sealed Jamia Masjid on the third consecutive week, disallowing the Juma prayers at the historic mosque. The authorities also kept educational institutions closed on the second consecutive day, today.

People including women and children took to the streets in Srinagar, Badgam, Ganderbal, Islamabad, Pampore, Tral, Pulwama, Sopore, Baramulla, Kupwara, Ajas, Bandipore, Shopian, Kulgam and other areas. The protesters were led by Hurriyat leaders including Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Hakeem Abdur Rasheed, Nisar Hussain Rather, Syed Imtiyaz Haider, Muhammad Yasin Attai, Bashir Ahmed Qureshi, Mushtaq Ahmed Sufi and Farooq Ahmed Sodagar. Raising high-pitched pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the protesters demanded of the puppet administration to expose the culprits of the attacks on women. The protesters termed the braid-chopping spree a conspiracy masterminded by the Indian agencies to create a sense of insecurity and fear-psychosis among the masses particularly womenfolk. Indian police and troops fired pellets and teargas shells to disperse the protesters in Srinagar, Sopore, Islamabad, Ajas, Tral, Hajin and other areas, injuring many of them.

The puppet authorities continued to put Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza and Zafar Akbar Butt under house arrest or in custody to prevent them from leading the demonstrations. The Joint Resistance Leadership in a statement strongly denounced the continued house arrest of Syed Ali Gilani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and repeated arrest of Muhammad Yasin Malik.

Meanwhile, three more incidents of braid-cutting were reported from Srinagar, Sopore and Ajas areas, today. Complete shutdown was observed in Sopore town as a mark of protest against the incident. Over 100 incidents of braid-chopping have been reported from different parts of the Kashmir Valley in the last one month. Locals say that Indian secret agencies are carrying out these incidents to scare the masses particularly the womenfolk.

Indian troops conducted siege and search operations in Hajin and Tral, causing immense inconvenience to the people. Residents of these areas staged protests against the operations and clashed with the troops, who used brute force against the protesters. People in Devos Khaipora area of Badgam said that Indian troops ransacked their houses and thrashed inmates without any reason, last night.
