Srinagar, October 16 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference while commenting on recent remarks of Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh suggesting that Vallabhbhai Patel was not allowed to act freely to resolve the Kashmir issue was an admission that Kashmir was not a part of India.

An APHC spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said Kashmir continues to be a dispute and India itself took it to the United Nations. Referring to Rajnath’s statement, the spokesman said, “Indian home minister admits that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru stopped Sardar Patel from merging Kashmir with India. This testifies our claim that Kashmir is not part of India,” he said.

“India took the case to the UN and pledged that the people of J&K would be given the right to self-determination to decide their political destiny.” He said the resolution was accepted by both India and Pakistan and the world community is witness to this but Indian authorities while claiming it as their integral part are continuously denying fulfilling their commitment.

“Now, while the Indian home minister accepted that Kashmir has not been integrated into India, hence they should admit it as a forcible occupation,” the spokesman said. “From now, it is better for New Delhi to avoid rhetoric about Kashmir being India’s integral part.”

Reiterating the demand for right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people, the APHC said Kashmir issue is the root cause of prevailing uncertainty in South Asia and India needs to fulfill its commitment which they have pledged at the international forums.

It is worth mentioning here that addressing a political gathering in Gujarat on Saturday, Rajnath Singh had said, had Patel, India’s first deputy prime minister, been allowed to act freely by then prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, India would not have been facing the Kashmir issue today.

Meanwhile, the spokesman paid rich tributes to Waseem Ahmed Shah, Nasir Ahmad and Gulzar Ahmed Mir who were killed by Indian troops during a cordon and search operation in Litter, Pulwama on Saturday.
