Shutdown in Tral against army’s brutalities

Srinagar, October 23 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership has expressed concern over the plight of Kashmiri political detainees, languishing in different jails of India and the territory.

The resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a joint statement in Srinagar, today, termed the inhuman treatment meted out to the detainees in jails as a test case for international human rights organizations.

The leaders condemned the callous attitude of Tihar Jail authorities towards Hurriyat leaders, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Advocate Shahidul Islam, Ayaz Muhammad Akbar, Pir Saifullah, Merajuddin Kalwal, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Farooq Ahmad Dar and businessman Zahoor Watali. Muhammad Yasin Malik along with a delegation visited the office of International Committee of Red Cross and urged the human rights watchdog to send a team to take stock of the detainees’ conditions, lodged in different Indian jails.

The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani in a statement while paying glowing tributes to Bijbehara martyrs appealed to the United Nations to impress upon India to stop killings and human rights violations in the occupied territory.

Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed in Tral area of Pulwama district against the thrashing of a family by Indian troops in the town. Indian Army’s 42 Rashtriya Rifles subjected to torture the family of a freedom activist, Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan in Aripal, last night. The incident triggered shutdown in Tral, Aripal and adjoining areas. In another incident, the troops ransacked houses and mosques in Tral town. They broke windowpanes and damaged property worth millions of rupees.

The Employees Joint Action Committee EJAC held a sit-in protest at Partap Park in Srinagar against the growing incidents of braid chopping. The protesting employees were holding banners which read “Stop braid-chopping” and “No compromise on honour and dignity of women”. Congress leader Tariq Hamid Qarra addressing party workers in Sopore said that braid chopping in Kashmir was a state-sponsored phenomenon, adopted on the Israeli pattern in Palestine.

The Indian National Investigation Agency has once again summoned APHC Jammu-based leader Advocate Devender Singh to New Delhi for questioning.

In Muzaffarabad, a protest rally was held outside the UN office against the braid chopping and other Indian brutalities in occupied Kashmir. The participants of the rally marched from Burhan Wani Shaheed Chowk to UN office and staged a sit-in there. The demonstrators raised anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.
