Twenty-four years ago, on the 22nd of October, 1993, Bijbehara, my hometown, was struck by a vicious massacre that killed scores of peaceful protesters who were demanding revocation of the military siege of the famous shrine, Dargah Hazratbal.

According to the state government’s own magisterial enquiry report, “a procession of 2,000 to 3,000 people” that was “entirely peaceful and unarmed” was attacked by the paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF). The report establishes “beyond any shadow of doubt that [the] firing upon the procession was absolutely unprovoked” and found that the paramilitary force “committed offence out of vengeance and their barbarous act … [was] deliberate and well-planned”. »

Srinagar, October 23 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of Ummat-e-Islami, Qazi Ahmad Yasir has paid tributes to the 52 people martyred by Indian troops in Bijbehara on October 22, 1993.

Qazi Ahmad Yasir addressing a mammoth public gathering in Kokernag area of Islamabad district said that the BSF men took firing positions on the main road like the battle and started firing upon civilian crowds which was another dark day in the history of Indian rule in Kashmir. »

Srinagar, October 23 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown was observed in Tral area of Pulwama district against the thrashing of a family by Indian troops.

Indian Army’s 42 Rashtriya Rifles thrashed a family of mujahid at Wagad in Aripal tehsil, last night.

The incident triggered a shutdown in Tral, Aripal and adjoining areas. »

Srinagar, October 23 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, speakers have pleaded for initiation of composite dialogue for settlement of the lingering Kashmir dispute.

Former Indian minister Babu Singh addressing a seminar titled “Political Aspirations of Kashmiris, Historical Perspective and Challenges of The Present Age” in Srinagar described Kashmir as a tripartite dispute, saying that India had controlled it through military might. »
