Srinagar, October 27 (KMS): Former Indian minister and senior Congress leader, Mani Shankar Aiyar, has said that the initiative taken by Narendra Modi-led government has died before it started.

Mani Shankar Aiyar in an interview with a Srinagar based wire agency while reacting over the appointment of interlocutor by the Indian government said that it would have been far better if the appointed interlocutor would have any political background. He said that it was astonishing that instead of appointing a political stalwart like Yashwant Sinha, Government of India preferred an Intelligence Officer. This has sent a wrong signal to the people of Kashmir who have completely lost faith in Indian political system, he added.

Mani Shankar Aiyar said though he is glad that for the first time after assuming charge of the country Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent an interlocutor instead of pellet guns and PAVA shells, but this decision to appoint an Intelligence Officer will not yield any results. “I am not enthusiastic about this development as I know what for this Intelligence Officer has been nominated. For me this initiative has died before its commencement,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party leaders addressing a rally in Jammu said that there would be no change in India’s aggressive policy on Kashmir after Dineshwar Sharma’s appointment as an interlocutor for Kashmir. The BJP leaders, Jitendra Singh, the Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office, and Nirmal Singh, the Deputy puppet Chief Minister of occupied Kashmir said that India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) would continue its raids on pro-freedom people. Jitendra Singh even said that Dineshwar Sharma was not an interlocutor but a special representative.

Another BJP leader, Ashok Kaul, in an interview also said that the Government of India had not appointed any interlocutor to hold dialogue in Kashmir but rather a representative to have conversation with people of Jammu and Kashmir.
