Srinagar, October 27 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, a five-member civil society coordination committee has said that numerous Jammu-based organisations are on the same page as the Kashmir Valley for safeguarding Article 35-A of Indian Constitution in the interest of the territory.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, members of the coordination committee ‘We the People of Jammu and Kashmir’ said that they met civil society, business groups and other organisations in Jammu as part of campaign to safeguard Article 35-A.

Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam said that almost a dozen groups in Jammu have been convinced for protecting the special status of the territory. “The groups we met are against dividing the territory on the lines of religion and region. They don’t want any tinkering with Article 35-A. These organizations include Gaw Raksha Committee, Dogra Saddar Sabha Jammu, Jammu Muslim Front, Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries and others,” he said.

Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam said these groups are willing to visit Kashmir Valley for holding interactions with stakeholders on the issue of Article 35-A. He said that the group also met JKHLA president I D Khujuria, former MP Sheikh Abdul Rehman, Suhail Kazmi of Taskeen Group of Publications, Prabodh Jamwal of Kashmir Times Group of Publications and former DGP M M Khujuria. “They all assured us of their support if we launch any agitation for protecting Article 35A,” he maintained.

Awami National Conference chief Muzaffar Ahmad Shah said the Jammu campaign has helped the civil society group to meet like-minded people on the issue of Article 35-A. He said he civil society group will be expanded and will even include representation from Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

“We are also working to include members from Azad Jammu and Kashmir as well. This organisation will be apolitical and work for issues which confront the people,” he said.
