Srinagar, October 31 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Muhammad Yasin Malik, has strongly condemned the continued illegal detention of elderly Muhammad Shaban of Kulgam, an activist of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir.

Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Muhammad Shaban was languishing in jail from a long time and despite his daughter being married was not being released. He said that the elderly person was being tortured in jail despite court orders to release him.

Muhammad Shaban was arrested by Indian police in 2016 and recently High Court of the occupied territory quashed his detention order issued under black law, Public Safety Act, and ordered his release but still he was not set free.

The JKLF Chairman expressed his anguish over the continued harassment by Indian police of a young student, Suhail Ahmed Butt of Rathsona area of Beerwah in Badgam district. He said that the police were unnecessarily harassing the student and jeopardizing his career.

Yasin Malik also visited the residence of JKLF District President for Ganderbal, Bashir Ahmad Rather (Boya), and congratulated him on his release from illegal detention. Bashir Boya was arrested by Indian police on September 27, 2016 and was booked twice under draconian PSA. He was released after the High Court quashed the PSA.
