Shutdown, demos in Pulwama against killing of youth

Srinagar, November 03 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of Hurriyat Forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has said that India has virtually converted the territory into a military garrison where the legitimate rights of the people are being suppressed through military might and use of brute force.

The puppet authorities had not allowed Juma prayers at the historic mosque during the past five weeks. The Mirwaiz said that the pulpit of Jamia Masjid had been representing the religious, political and social aspirations of the Kashmiri people for centuries and would continue to do so, despite restrictions, till the settlement of the Kashmir dispute. He said that India would not be able to suppress the Kashmiris’ ongoing freedom movement through repressive tactics. »

Srinagar, November 03 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik has said that India is the only so-called democracy in the world which keeps its political opponents in jails and detention centers and suppresses the voices of dissent by military might.

Muhammad Yasin Malik addressing a public gathering at Bilal Masjid in Srinagar, today, termed India’s claims of being the largest democracy of the world as hoax and said that New Delhi was the only so-called democratic country which was suppressing Kashmiris’ aspirations of freedom by bullets, pellets and detentions. »

Srinagar, November 03 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, has asked the Human Rights Commission of the territory to restore dignity of Kashmiri political prisoners in different jails in and outside the territory.

The resistance leaders in a joint application before the commission Chairman said that the Kashmiri political prisoners in Tihar jail were subjected to inhuman treatment and deprived of medical care. The detainees are deprived of their contact with relative and also other basic needs, they added. »

New Delhi, November 03 (KMS): India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued notice to the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik.

Media reports said that the ED issued notice in a false case registered against him in 2001. The agency has asked the JKLF Chief and two others to reply to the notice in the next 30 days after which civil adjudication proceedings will begin against them. »

Srinagar, November 03 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, people observed complete shutdown and staged forceful demonstrations in Pulwama district, today, against the killing of a youth by Indian troops.

The troops killed the youth during a siege and search operation in Samboora area of the district, yesterday.

All shops and business establishments remained closed while traffic was off the road. »

Srinagar November 03 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders, Zafar Akbar Butt and Javaid Ahmad Mir during mass contact programme, today, visited Soibugh, Wadwan, Zainakot and Gotpora areas of Badgam and interacted with families of prominent freedom leader, Syed Salahuddin, Shaheed Riyaz Rasool and Hurriyat activist, Mohammad Yusuf Shafat.

The two leaders expressed solidarity with scores of families affected by Indian state terrorism during the past several decades. »

Srinagar, November 03 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Mohammed Yousuf Ganai, 36, a government school teacher from Tirch area of Kupwara district, has been languishing in jail for the last eight months despite the court giving him bail in August in the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA) case slapped against him in March.

Yousuf Ganai, son of a government teacher, Ghulam Qadir Ganai, hails from a well-off family of Tirch village of Kupwara district, with fruit cultivation being the family trade. Yousuf has done M.Sc in Mathematics from Kashmir University and was appointed a teacher in 2003 in the Saduganga Kandi Middle School, where he is presently on suspension. »

Srinagar, November 03 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, four years after a petition was filed in the Human Rights Commission (HRC) of the territory, the DIG Police submitted a report on the 1990 Handwara massacre, saying “BSF men killed 14 persons including a former legislator and a police cop”.

The report reads that on 1st October, 1990, police personnel namely Abdul Hamid, Ali Mohammad, Farooq Ahmed, Sanaullah and Mohammad Maqbool were deputed in Handwara town for patrolling duties. In the meantime, fire engulfed the town and some police personnel tried to reach police station, Handwara, but it was cordoned off by 76 Battalion of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) under the command of Ratan Raveen. “The BSF personnel forcibly entered the police station and threatened the police nafri (personnel) to kill them and set ablaze the police station,” reads the report submitted by the CID wing of police to the human rights commission. »

Srinagar, November 03 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, a documentary ‘Kashmir Cricket Pakistan’ was released simultaneously at an event held in a hotel in Srinagar and during a seminar organized by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter in Islamabad on Thursday.

The documentary was released in Srinagar by its director Shafkat Raina in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Youth Civil Society. This film highlights the pain of Kashmiris particularly youth who support Pakistan during cricket matches. »

Srinagar, November 03 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the residents and civil society of Budgam district have demanded immediate release of Shahid Yousuf, the son of Hizbul Mujahideen Chief, Syed Salahuddin.

The civil society members in a statement said that despite promise made by the puppet Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, assuring his release, nothing has been done so far in this regard. »
