Book about ill-treatment of prisoners in IOK released

KCSDS calls for documenting sufferings of Kashmiris

Srinagar, November 17 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, a book ‘Prison Diary -Kashmir untold story 1965-68’ authored by former chief engineer, Engineer Muhammad Yousuf Butt, was released at a function in Srinagar.

The book was released by Syed Noor-ul-Hassan Rufai during the function organised by Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies (KCSDS).

“The book is compilation of the prison diary of the author during his incarceration in mid sixties and delves over the pathetic jail conditions, interrogation and behaviour of jail authorities,” a statement issued by the KCSDS said.

On the occasion, Dr Javaid Iqbal, Dr Abdul Ahad and Abdul Majeed Zargar presented the reviews of the book.

Addressing the event, Dr Altaf Hussain, Zamruda Habib, Anwar Ashai and Ajaz Rasool spoke about the resistance movement for past seven decades and the literature that has documented the relevant portions of Kashmir’s history.

“They emphasised the need for documenting individual and collective miseries and atrocities perpetrated on the Kashmir society from time to time which continue unabated,” the KCSDS statement said.

The KCSDS member, Shakeel Qalander, moderated the function while Z G Muhammad presented vote of thanks.

Other prominent people who attended the function included G R Sufi, Prof Noor Ahmed Baba, Prof Gul Wani, Parvez Imroz, Shujaat Bukhari, Khurram Parvez, Bashir Ahmed Bashir, Masood Hussain, M Ashraf, M D Qureshi, Syed Fazal Illahi and Hashmat Ali.
