Srinagar, November 28 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the residents of Soibugh area of Budgam district staged forceful protests soon after they heard the news about thrashing of Syed Shahid Yousuf, son of prominent freedom leader Syed Salahuddin, in Delhi’s Tihar Jail.

Shahid Yousuf is among the 18 victims of severe beating by the Tamil Nadu Special Police (TSP) on November 21 at Tihar Jail.

Scores of prominent residents of Soibugh held protests against the murderous attack on Shahid Yousuf. The protestors told media that the jail authorities harassed and beat up Shahid and 17 other inmates inside the jail for more than an hour between 8 to 9 pm that day.

“He (Shahid) has suffered head and leg injuries and marks of violence are visible on his back,” the protestors said.

“Shahid narrated the entire episode to his lawyer and handed over a blood-stained shirt to him as a proof of the murderous attack on him,” they added.

The protestors urged the Indian authorities to transfer the case of Shahid Yousuf to Srinagar to allow him to meet his nine-year-old specially-abled son, Syed Miftah, as he has intimate attachment with his father.

They also warned the authorities against any harm to Shahid. “If anything untoward happens to him in jail it will have serious consequences and government will be squarely responsible,” the protesters said.
