Demand shifting of Kashmiri detainees to occupied Kashmir

Srinagar, December 03 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the family members and relatives of the Kashmiri detainees lodged in New Delhi’s infamous Tihar jail held a demonstration in Srinagar, today, to protest against the ruthless thrashing of several prisoners in the jail.

Eighteen detainees, many of them Kashmiris, were injured after they were beaten up without any reason by the staff of Tihar jail on the night of November 21. The victims included Shahid Yousuf, the son of prominent freedom leader, Syed Salahuddin.

Several family members and relatives of the victims of the Tihar jail assault assembled at Press Enclave in Srinagar, today, demanding shifting of their detained kin from Tihar prison to Srinagar Central Jail. Hurriyat leaders Muhammad Yasin Malik and Shabbir Ahmed Dar, who also joined the protesters, demanded immediate release of all political detainees languishing in different jails of India and the occupied territory. The protestors were holding placards urging the world human rights organizations including the International Committee of Red Cross, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch to take cognizance of the plight of the Kashmiri detainees.

Farooq Ahmed Malik, the father of a victim Ehtisham Malik, said that his son is a bio-technologist. “He was on way to home from Ranchi (India). He spent the night of 26 and 27 February in 2016 in Delhi at a friend’s place who too is from Sopore. Police arrested him by raiding the place,” Farooq Malik, an engineer by profession, said. He also showed a picture of injured Ehtisham.

Uncle of another Kashmiri victim, Mushtaq Ahmed Lone, said that his nephew was arrested by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2014 and was lodged in Tihar jail. He said that no challan was produced against his relative in the court of law. “He was brutally beaten and is injured; we demand that he be shifted to Srinagar,” he said.
