Srinagar, December 12 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Human Rights Commission has sought a report from Indian police to explain why a French TV journalist, who was shooting his documentary on pellet victims in the territory, was arrested.

The French journalist, Paul Comiti, was arrested by the Indian police on December 9, when the victims of Indian state terrorism were holding a sit-in at Pratap Park in Srinagar and a case was registered against him under Passport Act. Paul is presently lodged at Kothibagh Police Station in Srinagar.

A petition in this regard was filed by noted human rights activist, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, before the human rights commission. The petition was accepted and a notice was issued to Inspector General Police (IGP) and Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) to submit a report explaining why the journalist was arrested.

Muhammad Ahsan Untoo in the petition said, “I want to know why he (Paul Comiti) was detained while discharging his professional duties. The SP East may kindly be directed to produce the said journalist before the commission so that he can clear his position.”

Paul is an award winning journalist.
