Muzaffarabad, December 16 (KMS): The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League (JKPFL), Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, has said that the people of Kashmir will never forget the sacrifices rendered by their martyrs for the Kashmir cause of freedom from Indian bondage.

Muhammad Farooq Rehmani was addressing a public gathering held in Muzaffarabad, today, to mark the 24th martyrdom anniversary of a renowned freedom-fighter, Abdul Khaliq Ganai alias Jamal Afghani.

He said that Jamal Afghani as a zealous youth spent his times and life from 1970s to 1993 solely in the way of organizing youth for freedom of his motherland. “He was arrested by the occupation and was martyred during a fake encounter on December 15, 1993 on Srinagar-Kupwara highway,” he said.

Paying rich tributes to the martyred leader and his dedication for the cause of Kashmir, he said that the people of Kashmir had rendered great sacrifices of life, honour and property during the last 27 years and both men and women were equally playing their role and urging the world community to facilitate a peaceful and durable solution of the Kashmir dispute in line with the UN resolutions.

The JKPFL Chairman said the Kashmir dispute was basically a very simple question of the right to self-determination and freedom and the Kashmiris were the basic party along with Pakistan and India. But, India, he said, had complicated the issue by its obduracy and by perpetrating oppression on the Kashmiri people with over seven hundred thousand troops. “The Indian army and police personnel have been given unbridled powers to kill the people in the occupied territory with impunity,” he deplored, and urged the UN to take steps towards resolving the Kashmir dispute through holding of plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Khaki Nasrullah, Altaf Hussain, Shahid Ahmed, Naeem Reyaz and Merajuddin Dar.
