Civil society members stage protest in Srinagar

Srinagar, January 07 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the International Forum for Justice (IFJ) staged a protest demonstration at Pratap Park in Srinagar against the January 1993 Sopore massacre.

The protest was led by Chairman of IFJ, Ahsan Untoo and members of civil society including Zareef Ahmad Zareef, Abdul Majeed Zargar and others. They were demanding justice for the family members of the over 60 civilians, who fell victim to Indian state terrorism on January 6, 1993 in the town. The troops also set ablaze shops, residential houses, vehicles and building of Women College Sopore on the fateful day.

Meanwhile, Indian troops launched nocturnal cordon and search operation at Takuna Beighpora in Awantipora area of Pulwama district. The troops launched house-to-house searches in Ghat Takuna area. A large number of Indian troops, police and paramilitary personnel took part in the operation.
