Srinagar, February 07 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Muslim Deeni Mahaz (MDM) staged a protest at Press Colony in Srinagar to press for the release of its President, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, who completed 25 years in prison on Monday (February 05).

The activists who carried placards and banners expressed concern over the prolonged detention of Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo. The protesters said, “The authorities are scared of releasing Dr Qasim because of his conviction towards the goal of freedom for which he has completed 25 years in jail.” They said that his incarceration was just a political vendetta.

We appeal to the conscientious people of the world and human rights organizations to impress upon India to release Dr Qasim and other Kashmiris facing life imprisonment in different jails.

A spokesman of MDM in a statement said, since 1931, Dr Muhammad Qasim is the only prisoner to have completed 25 years in prison and he has authored 20 books during his detention which includes Tafseer Ahsanul Hadith and the Status of Sunnah. The release of Dr Muhammad Qasim was advocated by a review board constituted by the Indian government but the same government declined to accept the recommendations, he added.
