Rich tributes paid to Afzal Guru, Maqbool Butt

Srinagar, February 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, life remained paralysed, today, due to the complete shutdown on the fifth hanging anniversary of Kashmiri leader, Muhammad Afzal Guru.

Call for the shutdown was given by the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik. All shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed while traffic was off the road.

India had executed Muhammad Afzal Guru in Tihar jail on this day in 2013 and another prominent Kashmiri leader, Muhammad Maqbool Butt in the same jail on 11th February in 1984. The bodies of the two martyrs remain buried in the premises of the jail. »

Srinagar, February 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), today, organized a function at Doabgah in Sopore, the ancestral home of Shaheed Muhammad Afzal Guru to express solidarity with the family and to remember Afzal Guru and Muhammad Maqbool Butt on their martyrdom anniversaries.

The DFP delegation, which participated in the function despite strict restrictions imposed by the puppet authorities was led by Engineer Farooq Ahmed and also included Peer Anayatullah, Muhammad Amin, Rameez Ahmed, Ashiq Hussain and Ghulam Muhammad Muqadam. »

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who in under continued house arrest, in a statement issued in Srinagar urged the world community and international human rights bodies to impress upon New Delhi to transfer the mortal remains of Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru from Delhi’s Tihar Jail to occupied Kashmir for proper burial. »

Srinagar, February 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the illegally detained Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Muhammad Yasin Malik has said that gallows, life imprisonments, curfews and arrests cannot break the will of the Kashmiri people and their sentiment for freedom.

Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement issued in Srinagar paid glowing tributes to prominent Kashmiri leaders, Muhammad Afzal Guru and Muhammad Maqbool Butt on their martyrdom anniversaries. He said, “Indian government not only hanged Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru in Tihar jail but also denied them a proper burial by burying them inside the jail premises. The height of shamelessness of this so-called biggest democracy is that it even disallowed these martyrs one last chance of meeting their loved ones.” »

Srinagar, February 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir (TeH) has said that the charge-sheet filed by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) against Hurriyat leaders and other Kashmiris and the witnesses listed in the case are frivolous and fabricated.

A spokesman of TeH while commenting on the reports published in the Indian media termed the charge-sheet against Altaf Ahmed Shah, Peer Saifullah, Merajuddin Kalwal, Ayaz Muhammad Akbar, Shahid-ul-Islam, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Kamran Yousuf, Javaid Ahmed Butt, Zahoor Ahmed Watali as political vendetta. »

Srinagar, February 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the High Court Bar Association (HCBA) has reiterated its demand for settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with aspirations of the Kashmiri people and the relevant UN resolutions.

The HCBA in its executive committee meeting in Srinagar, paying rich tributes to prominent martyred liberation leaders, Muhammad Afzal Guru and Muhammad Maqbool Butt, demanded the return of their mortal remains to their families for proper burial. »

Islamabad, February 09 (KMS): The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter held a condolence reference in Islamabad, today, and paid glowing tributes to the Kashmiri leaders, Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru, on their martyrdom anniversaries.

The AJK Hurriyat leaders said that the martyrdoms were an inseparable part of the ongoing liberation movement and the Kashmiri people would protect the supreme sacrifices of their martyrs and take their mission to its logical end. They termed the hangings of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru as judicial murders and said that India did not fulfill legal requirements while executing them. »

The JRL has also called for peaceful protests after Friday prayers to press the demand for the return of the mortal remains of Muhammad Afzal Guru and another renowned Kashmiri liberation leader, Muhammad Maqbool Butt, from New Delhi’s Tihar Jail to occupied Kashmir for decent burial. »
