Srinagar, February 10 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the illegally detained Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik has said that Muhammad Maqbool Butt was an ideologue, statesman, warrior, political leader and a diplomat who led the Kashmiris on all fronts and even sacrificed his life for the Kashmir cause.

Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement issued in Srinagar paying rich tributes to Muhammad Maqbool Butt on the eve of his martyrdom anniversary termed the struggle of the martyred leader as cornerstone of the Kashmiri resistance movement against illegal occupation and symbol of freedom and liberty. Maqbool Butt was not an ordinary person, he was an ideologue, a leader and an intellectual who visualized of liberating Kashmir from Indian occupation, pursued his dream, strived hard for it and sacrificed his life for this righteous cause, he said.

Recalling the struggle and sacrifices of Maqbool Butt, the JKLF Chairman said that the martyred leader started his struggle when he was a teenager, continued it throughout his youthful days, migrated for the righteous cause and returned back to battleground despite having gallows waiting for him.

Yasin Malik said Maqbool Butt’s letters written during 12 years of illegal detention at Delhi’s Tihar jail are a testimony of his intellect and greatness and every young Kashmiri should at least read these letters to know about this legend.

Paying tributes to great visionary leader, the JKLF Chief said that as heirs of sacred blood of their martyrs, Kashmiris need to focus on their goal and always remain steadfast and devoted to the mission of these great martyrs. He said that Maqbool Butt started his mission as a loner but soon thousands followed his footprints.

He said that Indian state not only hanged Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru but also denied these martyrs even a proper burial. This is actually a scar on the conscience of international community which has failed to safeguard the very basic human rights of Kashmiris, he maintained.

Yasin Malik urged the Kashmiri people to follow the JRL programme in letter and spirit and observe complete shutdown, tomorrow, and raise their voices for return of mortal remains of Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru.
