Dozen injured as Indian troops use force against mourners

Srinagar June 02 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, dozens of people were injured when Indian troops and police personnel used brute force on the funeral of a martyred youth in Srinagar, today.

The youth, Qaiser Butt, was run over by a vehicle of Indian Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Nowhatta area of Srinagar during a demonstration, yesterday. He was shifted to Soura Institute of Medical Sciences where he succumbed to critical internal injuries early today.

The puppet authorities imposed curfew and restrictions in Srinagar, today, to prevent people from attending the funeral prayers of the youth and staging demonstrations against his killing. Defying curfew and restrictions, thousands of people took part in the funeral prayers of Qaiser at Fateh Kadal Chowk, amid high-pitched pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. Indian troops and police personnel fired pellets and teargas shells into the mourners at the chowk, injuring dozens of them.

Reports said that the body of the martyred youth was later loaded onto a truck and driven to Eidgah where thousands of people had already assembled to take part in his last rites.

“Second round of funeral prayers was held there in which thousands of people participated,” said a mourner, adding that pro-freedom slogans were raised during the funeral.

He said that the Indian forces resorted to massive teargas shelling after Qaiser Butt was laid to rest, triggering intense clashes between the youth and the forces’ personnel.
