UN report on HR abuses in IOK welcomed » Kashmir Media Service

Srinagar, June 15 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, and the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik, have hailed the recent UN report on gross human rights violations by Indian occupation forces in the territory.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said, although Indian atrocities have crossed all the limits and are continuing unabated for the last 70 years, it is for the first time that the UN has realized the gravity and severity of this grave and grim situation. “The World Body has testified our stand that Indian armed forces under the undemocratic and unethical shield of legal impunity continue the genocide of Kashmir, with bullets, pellets, torture, rape and humiliation.” He said that if the iron fist and military might of India was not stopped, people of the territory would have to face tougher and harsher days ahead.

The APHC Chairman said that rejecting the report by India is nothing but arrogance of power because in the age of modern and latest technology nothing remains hidden for the sharp eyes of the lense, which displays even the minute details of the incident. He said, “We are not surprised by the Indian rejection as they have been in denial mode for the last 7 decades, but world recognizes the ground realities and day to day atrocities in this land and Indian denial carries no weight.” He appealed to the UN to take serious note of this brazen denial of facts and pressurize India to abide by its universal obligations and implement the long pending UN resolution on Jammu and Kashmir to pave way for permanent peace and prosperity in the South Asia region.

Muhammad Yasin Malik said that at a time when oppressed Kashmiris felt to have been abandoned by the international community, this report highlighting their miseries had actually come as a ray of hope to them. He said that Kashmiris were facing the wrath of colonial India from last more than seventy years during which every harsh measure and every evil tactic had been employed by the illegal occupant to legitimize its occupation and suppress the Kashmiris’ voices.

“India takes Kashmir as its occupied colony and therefore believes that no one has any right to question its illegal occupation and oppression unleashed on the subjugated people of Jammu Kashmir. It is therefore imperative upon the UN to follow their positive report with concrete steps to help the Kashmiris realize their right to self-determination and address the long pending question of Jammu Kashmir,” he added.

Other Hurriyat leaders including Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Barrister Abdurl Majeed Tramboo and Imtiaz Ahmed Reshi in their statements said that the UN report had recognized the grave human rights violations by the Indian state in the territory.
