Srinagar, June 24 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (JKML) has expressed serious concern over the continued illegal detention of its Chairman, Masarrat Aalam Butt.

A JKML spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the occupation authorities were prolonging the detention of Masarrat Aalam Butt which showed their frustration.

He said that the JKML Chairman was brought from Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu to Srinagar for the hearing of a case lodged against him in Nowhatta Police Station. He said that Masarrat Aalam was produced before Additional District and Sessions Judge who directed the prosecution to produce all witnesses in the case before the court on 4th July 2018. He said that the prosecution had not presented the witnesses before the court despite previous directions.

“After hearing, Masarrat Aalam was taken back to Kot Bhalwal Jail. Prolonging the illegal detention of the incarcerated leader showed frustration of the authorities,” he added.

The spokesman said, the JKML Chairman has been implicated in fictitious cases and continues to be kept in jail which is the worst example of human rights violation. He said that instead of honouring the court orders, the occupation authorities were ignoring all norms and rules and subjecting the detained leader to political vendetta. “The policy adopted by India through which Masarrat Aalam is being moved from one police station to another cannot break his will and courage,” he added.

The spokesman appealed to the world human rights bodies including the International Committee of Red Cross and Human Rights Watch to take cognizance of the unlawful detention of Masarrat Aalam and play their role in his release.

Meanwhile, the spokesman also condemned the killing and injuring of innocent people by the Indian troops in Srigufwara area of Islamabad district. He said that Indian brutalities would not be able to suppress the Kashmiris’ resolve to take their ongoing freedom movement to its logical conclusion.
