Commission to probe rights abuses demanded

Srinagar, July 04 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown was observed in Pulwama against the four-hour long nocturnal operation carried out by the Indian troops and police personnel in Rohmoo area of the district.

The terrified residents told the media that the troops barged into their houses and started thrashing whatever came their way adding that even women and children were not spared. The soldiers arrested, at least, seven innocent youth besides smashing windowpanes and damaging the parked vehicles. »

Srinagar, July 04 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown will be observed on July 8, Sunday to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of popular youth leader, Burhan Muzaffar Wani.

Burhan Wani was martyred along with his two associates by Indian troops in a fake encounter on July 8, 2016.

Call for the strike has been given by the joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik. »

Geneva, July 04 (KMS): The demand for initiation of an independent enquiry commission to investigate the allegations of gross human rights violations in Indian occupied Kashmir was raised at a parallel event organised on the sidelines of the ongoing 38th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The event was held under the auspices of International Human Rights Association of American Minorities (IHRAAM) in collaboration with the International Commission for Human Rights (ICHR), Indigenous Peoples and Nations Coalition (IPNC) and Koani Foundation. »

Srinagar, July 04 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, students of Muslim Educational Institute (MEI) Pampore hit the streets against the killing of classmate Faizan Ahmad Paswal.

Faizan, a class 10 student at MEI Pampore, was shot dead by the Indian troops during protests at Chatapora in Pulwama town on Friday.

Scores of students came out on roads raising anti-India and pro-freedom slogans and marched towards the Srinagar-Jammu Highway at Drangbal in Pampore. The students were holding banners and pictures of Faizan. Later, the students dispersed peacefully. The school remained shut in memory of Faizan. »

Geneva, July 04 (KMS): Kashmiri representative, Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo, has urged the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to play its role in protecting the populations under military occupation.

Speaking under the Agenda Item 5 at the ongoing 38th session of the UNHRC in Geneva, Barrister Tramboo, UN Permanent Representative and Director of International Human Rights Association of American Minorities (IHRAAM), urged the Council to appoint a special rapporteur on the situation of Jammu and Kashmir. »

Geneva, July 04 (KMS): Kashmiri representative, Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, has demanded of the UN Human Rights Council to ensure that human rights defenders in Indian occupied Kashmir cooperating with the UN and other human rights mechanisms are protected against all forms of intimidation and reprisals by India.

Syed Faiz Naqshbandi in his statement submitted during the ongoing 38th session of the Human Rights Council said, “We are gravely concerned by the increasing pressure against human rights defenders in occupied Kashmir, for cooperating with the Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights.” »

Geneva, July 04 (KMS): Kashmiri representative, Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl, has informed the UN Rights Council that India has been using the metal pellet-firing shotguns against people in the Kashmir Valley since, at least, 2010.

Speaking under the Agenda Item 4, Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl, who also represents International Human Rights Association of American Minorities (IHRAAM) at the 38th Session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva said, “There is no way to control the trajectory or direction of the pellets, whose effects are therefore indiscriminate. By their very nature, the weapons have a high risk of causing serious and permanent injuries to the persons targeted as well as to others.” »

Srinagar, July 04 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, delegations of Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement and Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League visited the residence of a fake encounter victim, Mudassir Ahmad Butt at Barzulla in Srinagar to express solidarity with the bereaved family.

Mudassir Ahmad Butt and another youth from Kulgam district were killed by the Indian troops in a fake encounter in Kupwara district, last month. »

Srinagar, July 04 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, people in Rohmoo area of Pulwama district were left terrified and bruised on Wednesday as the Indian troops thrashed them and vandalized their properties during a four-hour long unprovoked nocturnal raid, last night.

The residents of Rohmoo village in the district told media that the Indian soldiers entered the area late night and ransacked the property without any provocation. The troops arrested at least seven youth during the operation. Besides, they thrashed inmates and threatened them with dire consequences if their children resorted to protest against the Indian Army. »

Srinagar, July 04 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference Chairman, Shabbir Ahmad Dar, has said that the Indian troops have made the lives of the people in Hajin, Pulwama, Kulgam and other areas of the Kashmir Valley a hell.

Shabbir Ahmad Dar in a statement issued in Srinagar said the troops in the garb of search operations enter a village and ask people including children and women to come out of their houses and keep them waiting in the blazing heat for hours together. »
