Protest in Srinagar against civilian killings

Srinagar, July 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops martyred another youth during their fresh act of state terrorism in Kupwara district, today.

The youth was killed during a cordon and search operation in Magam area of Handwara. Indian army claimed that the youth was killed during an encounter. However, locals refuted the claim and said that the youth was killed in cold blood.

A protest demonstration organized by the Joint Resistance Leadership was held in Srinagar, today, against the killing of civilians by the Indian troops in Kulgam district on Saturday. The resistance leaders who attended the protest included Hilal Ahmad War, Imtiaz Ahmad Shah, Nisar Hussain Rather, Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri, Umar Adil Dar, Master Abdur Rasheed, Muhammad Shafi Mir, Sheikh Abdur Rasheed and Imran Butt. The protesters assembled at Abi Guzar and tried to march towards Lal Chowk when a large posse of police intercepted them and detained many of them. Pro-freedom and anti-India slogans were raised on the occasion. »

Srinagar, July 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, resistance leaders and organizations have strongly condemned the arrest and shifting of Dukhtaran-e-Millat Chairperson, Aasiya Andrabi and her associates, Fahmeeda Sofi and Nahida Nasreen to New Delhi by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar said Kashmir has been turned into a killing field where the lives of men, women and even school going children are not safe. »

Srinagar, July 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyat leader Mushtaq-ul-Islam has condemned the detention of resistance leaders, terming it as extremely unwise to deny political space and muzzle the genuine voices.

Mushtaq-ul-Islam in a statement issued in Srinagar expressed serious concern over the fresh arrest spree, night raids on Hurriyat leaders and activists, harassment of peaceful civilians and humiliation during night raids and crackdowns. »

Srinagar, July 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the General Secretary of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi has said that India has created chaotic and explosive situation in the territory.

Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi was addressing mourners in Howra Redwani, Kulgam, where three youth including a teenage girl were mercilessly killed by forces’ personnel on Saturday. »

Srinagar, July 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, shutdown was observed in Bhadarwah, Banihal and other areas of Jammu region to commemorate the second martyrdom anniversary of popular youth leader Burhan Muzaffar Wani and killings of civilians by Indian troops in Kulgam.

The strike was observed on the call of Anjuman-e-Islamia Bhadarwah (AIB) to pay tribute to Burhan Wani and to protest the killings of three civilians in firing by Indian army in Kulgam district. »

Srinagar, July 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, two years have passed since the killing of charismatic youth leader Burhan Muzaffar Wani, and on every single day of these two years his family has been receiving guests, fifteen to twenty of them, from across the territory.

Burhan was martyred by the Indian troops in a fake encounter in Bemdoora area of Kokernag in Islamabad district on July 8, 2016. Kashmir valley remained shut for more than five months while more than hundred civilians were killed and thousands injured many with pellets protesting against his killing. »

Toronto July 09 (KMS): The President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Masood Khan has said that it is the responsibility of the UN and countries like Canada to avert a major war over Kashmir, which is a grave and potent risk.

He was addressing a huge Kashmir Conference organized by the Kashmir Welfare Society and the Friends of Kashmir Committee which was attended by Canadians and members of the Pakistani and Kashmiri diaspora community.

He said two years after the martyrdom of Burhan Wani, his legacy for struggle for self-determination lives on.

He said Burhan Wani’s martyrdom had handed the baton of freedom struggle to the youth of Kashmir, a fact recognized by a recently released report by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. »
