New Delhi, July 14 (KMS): India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) has summoned an occupied Kashmir-based journalist for examination in connection with a false case registered against Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) Chairperson, Aasiya Andrabi, and her associates, Nahida Nasreen and Fehmeeda Sofi.

Aaqib Javaid, who is presently working as a reporter with local daily Kashmir Observer, has been summoned by the NIA to attend its headquarters in New Delhi on July 15 (Sunday). He has been asked to attend the NIA superintendent, Vikas Katheria, who is chief investigating officer of the fake case registered against Aasiya Andrabi, Fehmeeda Sofi and Nahida Nasreen under the charges of sedition and waging of war against India. The case was registered on April 27, 2018 in New Delhi by the NIA.

Aaqib Javaid said that he was called by police at Kothibagh police station, Srinagar, where he was handed over the NIA summons.

On January 15 this year, an interview of Aasiya Andrabi conducted by Aaqib and published under the headline “Just killing an Indian soldier won’t get us anything: Aasiya Andrabi” was published in a local weekly magazine. In the interview, Aasiya Andrabi had talked about people participating in elections, uprisings of 2008, 2010 and 2016, the Kashmir dispute and appoint of Dineshwar Sharma as interlocutor on Kashmir by the Indian Government.

It is to mention here that on July 6, illegally detained Aasiya Andrabi, Fehmeeda Sofi and Nahida Nasreen were taken into custody and shifted from Srinagar Central Jail to New Delhi by the NIA.

Aaqib is not the first journalist from occupied Kashmir to be summoned by the NIA. Earlier, the investigating agency had arrested a photojournalist, Kamran Yousuf, from Pulwama on the charges of indulging in stone pelting. He is currently out on bail.
