London, July 18 (KMS): The UK-based Jammu and Kashmir Self-Determination Movement International (JKSDMI) will observe Kashmir Awareness Week in Britain in the month of August to highlight the Kashmir dispute and the sufferings of the Kashmiri people at the hands of Indian troops in occupied Kashmir.

The JKSDMI in a statement issued in London said that on 6th August, a Kashmir Conference would be held in Luton Town Hall in which Mayors, Councillors, professionals and women’s groups, including Members of British and European Parliaments from South of England would participate. It said that on 7th August a business and tourism conference with members of Kashmiri and Pakistani community would be held in London.

“Dinner reception in Honour of MPs, MEPs, Lord Mayors, Councillors and Community leaders in Sheffield for South Yorkshire Region will be held on 8th August. Dinner reception by Jack Brereton MP and with his team of Conservative Friends of Kashmir (CFoK) in Stoke on Trent on 9th August will be attended by the conservative MPs, MEPs, Councillors and community leaders,” the statement said.

“On 10th August special conference will take place in Nottingham supported by Chris Leslie MP, Chairman All-Party Kashmir Group on Kashmir in the British Parliament and others in the East Midland including representatives from all walks of life,” it said, adding that on 11th and 12th August, the JKSDMI team will make a trip to Scotland and meet with the local politicians and community leaders including a visit of the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.

It said that Kashmir Self-Determination Conference would take place in Birmingham on 13th August with the support of Anthea McIntyre, MEP Chairperson Friends of Kashmir in the European Parliament. “Pakistan Day Celebrations will be held in Birmingham on 14th August with a flag-hoisting ceremony and an evening dinner in Rochdale Town Hall with the Mayor of Rochdale, Concillor Muhammad Zaman along with Concillor Asim Rashid, Chairman of Pakistani and Kashmiri Councillors’ Forum North West of England,” it said. The statement said that on 15th August, a youth conference would be held in Leeds Civic Hall Council Chamber from 12 noon until 5pm and an evening dinner in Bradford with the support of Shadow Justice Minister, Barrister Imran Hussain MP, Shadow Equalies Minister Naz Shah MP, and would be attended by Yorkshire MPs, MEPs, Councillors and community leaders.

“We are planning to invite the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider Khan and other dignitaries from Pakistan and Azad Kashmir,” the statement said. The JKSDMI Chairman, Raja Najabat Hussain, is planning to take a delegation of both UK and EU parliamentarians during the last week of August to AJK and Pakistan, allowing them to experience first-hand that what is going on in the region,” it added.
