Islamabad, July 19 (KMS): Former convener of All Parties Hurriyat Conference AJK-chapter and Vice President of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, has appreciated the UN Secretary General’s recent statement in which he had supported international investigation into human rights violations by Indian troops in occupied Kashmir.

Mehmood Ahmed Saghar in a statement issued in Islamabad said the assertion of the UN Chief is a positive development, which speaks volumes about growing concerns and realisation at global level about the situation in occupied Kashmir.

He said, “Now that the UN chief has taken a bold and clear-cut stance on the matter, the international community must realize the gravity of the situation and come forward in a big way to impress upon New Delhi to accept the UN High Commissioner’s demand for establishment of Commission of Inquiry to conduct comprehensive independent international investigation into the human rights violations in Kashmir.”

Regarding the mediation offers from the United Nations, the DFP leader said Kashmiris have always supported and welcomed such kind of offers but New Delhi rejects the idea. It is time for New Delhi to accept this bitter reality that a political solution to the Kashmir dispute is the only way forward, he added.
