Jammu, August 02 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Islami Markazi Majis-e-Shoora, Kishtwar district, has warned of strong agitation against Indian attempts to change the demography of Jammu and Kashmir and to damage its disputed nature by using its judiciary.

The Islami Markazi Majis-e-Shoora in a statement issued in Jammu said that challenging Article 35-A of the Indian Constitution was an open assault on the people of Jammu and Kashmir and was aimed at changing its demographic composition. It said Article 35-A is related to the state subject laws and once these laws are done away with, it will be disastrous for the entire population of Jammu and Kashmir.

Islami Markazi Majis-e-Shoora said that India under the UN Security Council resolutions had agreed to hold plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir supervised by the World Body. Unfortunately, with the passage of the time, the statement added, India backed away from its commitment and started hoodwinking the international community by equating the so-called legislative assembly elections in occupied Kashmir with the UN-pledged plebiscite. “India knows that population ratio of Jammu and Kashmir does not suit it to hold plebiscite, so it is trying to reduce it through conspiracies,” the Majis-e-Shoora said. It added that New Delhi was using its Supreme Court to get rid of those constitutional clauses, which acknowledge the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and its citizens.

The Majis-e-Shoora also urged the non-Muslim residents of the territory to raise their voice against the Indian efforts to damage the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, political, social and trade bodies at a joint meeting in Rajouri said that attempts to fiddle with Article 35-A should be immediately stopped.

The participants deliberated on the challenges being faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of conspiracies against Article 35-A that grants special rights and privileges to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The participants said that special status of Jammu and Kashmir was a part of emotions of people living in Kashmir and fiddling with it should immediately be stopped.
