Srinagar, August 02 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat forum and High Court Bar Association have expressed strong concern over the amendment to the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA) terming the move as anti-human and politically-motivated.

The Hurriyat forum in a statement issued in Srinagar said, the move reflects the revengeful mentality of the Indian authorities against these political prisoners. It said that dozens of prisoners lodged outside prisons including Delhi’s notorious Tihar jail were deprived of basic facilities like medical care and hygienic food.

The Hurriyat forum said amendment to draconian PSA is aimed at further instilling fear among the families of prisoners and to build pressure on people of Kashmir to force them into submission.

The statement also castigated New Delhi for imposing arbitrary censorship and disallowing foreign journalists from visiting occupied Kashmir. It said the move to stop foreign media from visiting and reporting Kashmir amounts to direct assault on the freedom of press and that the international media should take note of it and protest this undemocratic gesture.

Meanwhile, the High Court Bar Association of occupied Kashmir in a statement described the deletion of PSA provision as a politically-motivated move aimed at terrorizing, torturing and humiliating the freedom-loving people of Kashmir.

“It is neither fair nor just that a detenue should have to suffer in such place as the government may specify. The normal rule has to be that the detenue will be kept in detention in a place which is within the environs of his or her ordinary place of residence,” the Bar Association said.
