Islamabad, August 06 (KMS): The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter held a protest rally in Islamabad, today, against the assault on Article 35-A of the Indian constitution.

Article 35-A is the hereditary state subject law that defines the permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir and bars non-locals from buying or owning property in the territory. It has been challenged by an NGO, ‘We the Citizens’, and other groups in the Indian Supreme Court.

The speakers said the move to challenge the validity and legality of Article 35-A is actually to pave way for the settlement of non-state residents and to change demography of the territory.

They expressed concern over the conspiracies being hatched in New Delhi which are aimed at turning Muslim majority population into a minority in Jammu and Kashmir by abrogating Article 35-A.

The speakers said any anti-Kashmir verdict from the Indian Supreme Court and any attempt aimed at changing the inherited demographic character of Jammu and Kashmir will be resisted, tooth and nail.
