Srinagar, August 09 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir and Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (JKML) have condemned harassment of Hurriyat leaders and activists languishing in different jails from Tihar in India to Baramulla in the Valley.

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat in a statement issued in Srinagar denounced the shifting of Showkat Ahmad Ganai, Mushtaq Ahmad Ganai and Bilal Ahmad Ganai to Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu under draconian law Public Safety Act. The TeH also condemned the continued detention of Riaz Ahmad Dar, Basharat Ahmad Mir, Manzoor Ahmad Najar, Ashiq Hussian Butt, Latif Ahmad Ratherand Sajjad Ahmad Butt and demanded their immediate release.

The JKML spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said from Tihar to Baramulla jail, the authorities have unleashed a reign of terror on the Kashmiri political detainees. He said the plight of detainees is deeply disturbing as detainees are deprived of human contact for long. He expressed concern over the prejudiced attitude of the jail authorities.

The spokesman said political prisoners are being ill-treated and harassed and even deprived of medical facilities. The jail authorities have been refusing to provide any medical treatment to the detainees though they are suffering from different ailments. He said such tactics will not break Kashmiris’ resolve for freedom movement.

He paid rich tributes to the courage and steadfastness shown by the hundreds of Kashmiri prisoners lodged in various jails. H said the sacrifices rendered by Masarrat Aalam Butt, Dr Muhammad Qasim, Mushtaq-ul-islam, Dr Shafi Shariati, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Ghulam Qadir Butt, Mohammad Yusuf Mir, Aasiya Andrabi, Ghulam Mohammad Khan Sopori, Nahida Nasreen, Fahmeeda Sofi, Assudullah Parrray, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Raja Meraj-u-Din Kalwal, Ayaz Akbar and others are praiseworthy.

Meanwhile, the United Jihad Council (UJC) in a statement issued in Srinagar condemned torture of the families of liberation activist in Tral area of Pulwama district.

On the other hand, Hurriyat leaders Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori and Muhammad Shaif paid rich tributes to prominent martyred Hurriyat leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz on his 10th martyrdom anniversary. A prayer session was held at Martyrs’ Graveyard, Eidgah in Srinagar.

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front in a statement condemned the police raid on the residence of party leader Zahoor Ahmad Butt at Hawal Srinagar, last night. He was arrested and shifted to police station Nowhata. The JKLF strongly condemned his arrest and said that police harassment of political activists and leaders were continuing unabated.
