JRL urges Kashmiris to observe shutdown, Black Day on August 15

Srinagar, August 11 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders paying glowing tributes to prominent martyred Hurriyat leader, Sheikh Abdul Aziz, on his martyrdom anniversary, today, reaffirmed the Kashmiris’ resolve to accomplish the mission of their martyrs at all costs.

Sheikh Abdul Aziz was shot dead by Indian troops on 11th August, 2008, while he was leading a procession from Srinagar to the Line of Control against the economic blockade of the Kashmir Valley by Hindu extremists of Jammu.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, who is under house arrest, telephonically addressing a conference held at the Hurriyat headquarters in Srinagar termed Sheikh Aziz as a visionary political leader as well as a brave commander who faced bullets on his chest rather than to succumb or surrender before the Indian military might. The conference was also addressed among others by Hurriyat leaders Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi, Zamruda Habib, Yasmeen Raja, Bilal Siddiqi, Muhammad Yasin Attai, Syed Bashir Andrabi, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Muhammad Rafiq Ganai, Hakeem Abdul Rasheed, Nisar Hussain Rathar, Bashir Ahmed Kashmiri and Ghulam Muhammad Nagoo.

Senior resistance leaders, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, in their statements said that Sheikh Abdul Aziz’s contribution, services and the sacrifices for the ongoing freedom movement would always be remembered.

A large number of people including Hurriyat leaders, Shabbir Ahmed Dar, Muhammad Musaddiq Aadil, Javaid Ahmed Mir, Imtiyaz Ahmed Reshi, Muhammad Iqbal Mir, Engineer Farooq and Jaffar Kashmiri visited Martyrs’ Graveyard at Eidgah in Srinagar, today, and paid homage to Sheikh Abdul Aziz and other Kashmiri martyrs. The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League Chairman, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza, presided over a prayers session held in Islamabad town in connection with the martyrdom anniversary of Sheikh Aziz.

Speakers at a seminar held by the APHC-AJK chapter in Islamabad, today, said that the sacrifices of Kashmiris martyrs including Sheikh Aziz had centre-staged the Kashmir dispute at the world level. They deplored that after failing to suppress the Kashmiris’ freedom struggle through military might, India was now hatching conspiracies to change the demographic composition of Jammu and Kashmir. Pasbaan-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir held a rally in Muzaffarabad to eulogize the sacrifices of Sheikh Aziz for the Kashmir cause.

Complete strike was observed at Langate in Kupwara and in Tral town of Pulwama against killing and arrest of youth by the Indian forces’ personnel.

The Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has called for observance of complete shutdown and Black Day in the territory on 15th August, India’s Independence Day.

In New Delhi, a court extended the judicial remand of the illegally detained Chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Aasiya Andrabi, and her two associates, Nahida Nasreen and Fehmeeda Sofi, till September 7.
