Srinagar, August 11 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Coordination Committee (JKCSCC) has called for complete shutdown on August 27 against the BJP-led Indian government’s attempts to abrogate Article 35-A of the Indian Constitution which guarantees special privileges and rights of the permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir.

The JKCSCC members gave the shutdown call while addressing a press conference in Srinagar, today.

The petitions seeking abrogation of Article 35-A are listed for hearing in the Indian Supreme Court on August 27.

“Safeguarding Article-35A is a huge responsibility. Every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir, irrespective of caste and religion is ready to give his life to defend the special status of Kashmir,” JKCSCC leader and the Grand Mufti-designate, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam said while addressing the conference.

Other members of the JKCSCC who were present in the presser included Jagmohan Raina, Advocate Mir Javid and Muzaffar Shah.

The JKCSCC urged the people to observe complete shutdown and stage peaceful protests on August 27 against the attempts to revoke the Article 35-A.
