Srinagar, August 11 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders and organizations have paid glowing tributes to prominent martyred Hurriyat leader, Sheikh Abdul Aziz, on his martyrdom anniversary, today.

Sheikh Abdul Aziz was shot dead by Indian troops on 11th August, 2008, while he was leading a procession from Srinagar to the Line of Control against the economic blockade of the Kashmir Valley by Hindu extremists of Jammu.

A large number of people including Hurriyat leaders, Shabbir Ahmed Dar, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Hakeem Abdul Rasheed, Muhammad Musadiq Aadil, Javaid Ahmed Mir, Mohammad Yaseen Attai, Imtiyaz Ahmed Reshi, Muhammad Iqbal Mir, Engineer Farooq, Ghulam Muhammad Mir, Shakeel-ur-Reham, Mukhtar Ahmad Sofi, Ghulam Qadir Rah, Muhammad Shafi, Muhammad Saleem Zargar, Bashir Kashmiri, Syed Imtiyaz Haider, Muhammad Rafiq Owaisi and Jaffar Kashmiri, today, visited Martyrs’ Graveyard at Eidgah in Srinagar, today, and participated in a prayers session. They paid glowing tributes to Sheikh Abdul Aziz and other Kashmiri martyrs.

Addressing on the occasion, they said 2008 mass uprising was a turning point in the ongoing freedom movement when people took to streets in hundreds of thousands, which was a referendum against India’s illegal occupation. They said Kashmiris’ freedom struggle had entered a decisive phase and greater unity among the ranks of Hurriyat leadership and people was important to take the movement to its logical conclusion in a more effective manner.

Other Hurriyat leaders including Fazal Haq Qureshi, Bilal Siddiqi and Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo in their statements issued in Srinagar paid rich tributes to Sheikh Abdul Aziz on his martyrdom anniversary. They said that the sacrifices of Kashmiri martyrs would not be allowed to go waste and their mission would be accomplished at all costs.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Young Men’s League organized a seminar at Muzaffarabad which was chaired by its Vice Chairman Zahid Ashraf. Speakers on the occasion said that services, sacrifices and contribution of Sheikh Abdul Aziz for the Kashmir cause would always be remembered.
