Srinagar, October 24 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, members of High Court Bar Association staged a sit-in protest outside the high court premises against civilian killings, ransacking of houses and looting of properties by Indian troops in different parts of the territory.

The Bar members took out a procession outside the court premises, raising slogans, amid demands that the Kashmir issue be settled in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people as guaranteed by the UN Security Council resolutions.

The HCBA in statement issued in Srinagar said, “The Bar Association condemns the killings at Kulgam, Fateh Kadal, Kupwara and Baramulla and looting of properties at Trisal, Redwani, Newa and many other places and demands an immediate end to the same and an independent enquiry into the incidents through an international probe agency.”

Addressing the demonstration, the speakers called for resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the wishes of the people so as to bring an immediate end to the sufferings and miseries of the people. The speakers included Mian Abdul Qayoom, Zafar Ahmed Shah, Mushtaq Ahmed Maqdoomi, Arshad Andrabi and Nazir Ahmed Tabassum.

The lawyers expressed solidarity with the people of Kulgam, Fateh Kadal, Baramulla and Kupwara and demanded of the international community to play its role in resolving the Kashmir dispute to avoid the possibility of a nuclear war between India and Pakistan over the issue. The lawyers tried to march towards Lal Chowk but were stopped by the police at the gate of the High Court premises.
