JRL calls for shutdown in IOK on Saturday

Srinagar, November 14 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the illegally detained senior APHC leader and Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Muslim League, Masarrat Alam Butt was slapped with the 37th draconian law, Public Safety Act, and was shifted to Hira Nagar jail in Jammu, today.

The fresh PSA, which is 37th in the series, was invoked by the Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla, today. Such detention is termed by the human rights organizations as the revolving-door-detention where a person is booked under new detention order after the earlier order is quashed by the court of the occupied territory. The Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League in a statement condemned the fresh PSA and said there is jungle raj prevailing in Kashmir. It pointed out that such law existed nowhere in the world. Masarrat Aalam Butt who spearheaded the 2010 uprising was arrested in October, the same year. »

Srinagar, November 14 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, funeral prayers were held for the son-in-law of the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, at Dooru in Sopore area of Baramulla district, today.

People from all walks of life including Hurriayt leaders Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Muhammad Musaddiq Aadil, Abdul Ahad Parra, Abdullah Tari, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Mian Abdul Qayyum, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, Dr Yousuf-ul-Umar, Engineer Ghulam Hassan Mir, Sheikh Muhammad Yousuf, Advocate Muhammad Ashra Butt, Dr Nayeem Gilani and Naseem Gilani participated in the funeral prayers of the deceased, Ghulam Hassan Makhdoomi. A delegation of Tehreek-e-Wahdat Islami led by Muhammad Mqbool Magami also participated in the last rites of the deceased. He was laid to rest at his ancestral village Dooru in Sopore.

The woman was arrested after the vehicle she was travelling in was stopped by Indian police at Lawaypora on Srinagar-Baramulla highway, the police said. »

Srinagar, November 14 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League has condemned the shifting of its unlawfully detained Chairman, Masarrat Aalam Butt from Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu to some unknown location.

The JKML spokesman Sajjad Ayoubi in a statement issued in Srinagar said that court had quashed 35th draconian Public Safety Act slapped on Masarrat Aalam Butt but the authorities again detained him by invoking the 36th PSA, which too ended on Monday. »

Srinagar, November 14 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has called for a complete shutdown across the territory during the first phase of sham panchayat elections on Saturday (November 17).

The leadership in a joint statement issued in Srinagar, today, urged people to reject and boycott the election drama in the same way they rejected the local bodies’ elections by staying indoors. »

Kashmiris today are fond of drawing comparisons between their recent history and that of the Palestinians. Pictures of Kashmiri kids stoning Indian forces in a three decades old uprising that has come to be known as the ‘Kashmiri Intifada’ have played a part in this growing affinity with the Palestinian struggle for freedom against Israel.

However, not many people, and one could include here the majority of Kashmiris as well, appreciate how the parallels in our two nations’ histories run deeper than even these images would lead us to believe. »
