Detention of Mirwaiz, Waza, War and other leaders condemned

Srinagar, February 03 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat forum has strongly condemned the detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mukhtar Ahmed Waza.

The Hurriyat forum in a statement issued in Srinagar said that entire Kashmir was turned into a military garrison on Indian Prime Minister’s visit as every road was dotted with forces personnel, resistance leadership caged in their homes or police stations and massive frisking and search operations being conducted everywhere leading to harassment of general public.

It said that the way various crucial road links were closed as part of the so-called security measures and people left in the lurch and forced to change routes and travel through long distances, motorcycles being seized, vehicles stopped for intense frisking, erection of barricades on main roads in Srinagar was nothing but a deliberate attempt to add to the miseries of the people.

Hurriyat leader and the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement, Zafar Akbar Butt, in a statement in Srinagar denounced the arrest spree against resistance leaders and party activists and unnecessary harassment of people in the territory on visit of the Indian Prime Minister. He said over 100 party activists have been booked under false cases, which is highly condemnable.

The Peoples Political Party in its statement in Srinagar condemned the illegal detention of its Chairman, Hilal Ahmad War, and other Hurriyat leaders and activists and demanded their immediate release.
