Srinagar, February 15 (KMS): Fear gripped the Kashmiri students studying in different colleges of India’s Dehradun city after unruly mobs thrashed some of them.

Srinagar-based English daily quoted a Kashmiri student as having said over phone from Dehradun that in city’s Sudhowala locality a mob barged into the rented accommodation of a Kashmiri student and thrashed him.

Quoting another incident where the Kashmiri students were assaulted, he said that two Kashmiri students studying at Subaharti University were whisked away by a mob and then beaten. He said that the mob raised slogans against the Kashmiris asking them to leave the state. “The mobsters were yelling that Kashmiris were terrorists,” he said. Referring to another such occurrence in the city, he said some local goons barged into the Dev Bhoomi Institute of Technology and were looking for the Kashmiri students.

Following these incidents, the Kashmir students studying in Dehradun are worried about their safety.

Pertinently, prejudice and assaults against the Kashmiris who travel to India for education, employment and trade is not new. They often face verbal and physical assaults from unruly mobs and Hindu fanatic students and what is more worrying is that the authorities are not showing any concern about the safety of the Kashmiris and are letting the perpetrators to roam free.

Just a day before, at least four Kashmiri students were critically injured after goons and students from the Indian states of Maharashtra and Bihar beat them up ruthlessly in the hostel of Disha Institute of Management and Engineering Technology at Chhattisgarh.

Meanwhile, a Kashmiri student of the Subharti University was suspended on Friday after his WhatsApp chat on Pulwama attack went viral. The action was taken after hundreds of students belonging to Hindu rightwing organizations, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, encircled the university and demanded immediate arrest of the student, Indian English daily Times of India reported. The daily quoted Atul Krishna, the Director of the University, as having said that the student, Qaiser Rashid, is doing diploma in paramedical studies and belongs to Kashmir. He added that the university has immediately suspended him after his WhatsApp chat went viral.

On the other hand, authorities of Aligarh Muslim University suspended a Kashmiri student, Basim Hilal, for his tweet after the Pulwama attack. Omar Saleem Peerzada, AMU PRO said, “We have come to know of the highly objectionable tweet. Taking immediate cognizance the student has been suspended by the university administration,” he said. He added that an FIR has been registered against Basim Hilal for his tweet.

Pertinently, over 40 CRPF troops were killed and several others injured when an explosion in Pulwama district of in occupied Kashmir, yesterday.
