Trade bodies call for complete shutdown tomorrow

Srinagar, February 16 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, people staged forceful demonstrations in Srinagar, Islamabad and other areas, today, against attacks on Kashmiri Muslims by Hindu fanatics in Jammu and different Indian states.

People took to the streets in different areas of Srinagar and Islamabad town and held massive demonstrations. Indian troops and police used brute force and fired teargas shells to disperse the protesters, triggering clashes between the demonstrators and the forces’ personnel. Traders and shopkeepers observed strike in Lal Chowk and adjoining markets in Srinagar to register protest against the victimization of the Kashmiris. The Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Forum, Kashmir Economic Alliance and other trade bodies of the valley have called for complete shutdown in the occupied territory, tomorrow, against the attacks on Kashmiris.

Despite curfew in Jammu city, Hindu arsonists attacked the vehicles and residential quarters of the Kashmiris in Janipur colony, today. The Hindu extremists attacked and harassed the Kashmiri students studying in Haryana and Dehradun colleges in India.

Hurriyat leaders and organizations including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani and Jamaat-e-Islami of occupied Kashmir in their statements denounced the attacks on the Kashmiris.

Meanwhile, Dastaar Bandi of new Grand Mufti of occupied Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, was performed during a function held at the shrine of Khanqah-e-Muala, Shah-e-Hamadan Masjid in Srinagar.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir chapter at a meeting in Islamabad said that every killing that happens in occupied Kashmir regrets for the people and leadership of Kashmir. it said that the Kashmiris witness killing of their loved ones each day and can feel the pain of loss that the families of those killed go through.

On the other hand, the Kashmir experts and observers of the regional situation are of the view that Thursday’s Lethpora attack that left over 40 Indian troops killed and dozens others injured raises many questions and seems to be another conspiracy by the Indian government and its military establishment to achieve their vested interests of defaming Pakistan and diverting the attention of the world community from the brutalities being committed by Indian troops in occupied Kashmir. They say that same pattern was followed in past incidents like the Indian Parliament attack, Samjhauta Express blasts, Pathankot attack and the Uri military base attack. In these incidents, India had laid the blame on Pakistan and its intelligence agencies, but later it came to fore that these acts were handiwork of Indian Government, its agencies or the Indian Army-backed forces.

In New Delhi, the Supreme Court of India is scheduled to hear between 19th and 21st February, the petitions seeking repeal of Article 35-A of the Indian Constitution that grants special rights and privileges to the permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir.
