Srinagar, February 23 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities have stopped advertisements to two English dailies, Greater Kashmir and Kashmir Reader.
The Kashmir Editors Guild (KEG), condemning the stopping of advertisements to the dailies by the authorities, has decided to fight the deliberate strangulation and subversion of the institution of media.
The KEG in a detailed meeting discussed the issue, adding the decision has neither been conveyed formally nor was any reason detailed to the respective organisations, so far.
Meanwhile, the spokesman of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry in a statement in Srinagar condemned the stopping of advertisements to two English dailies, calling the move as a futile attempt to manipulate the news narrative.
He said the media organizations have been discharging their duties in very difficult circumstances and have always maintained the highest ethical and professional standards. The press community is being targeted for its neutral and unbiased reporting, he added.
On the other hand, the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in a statement also condemned attempts by the occupation authorities to strangulate the media. He said that the illegal crackdown on socio-religious organisations and leadership and to strangulate media reflected the continuation of authoritarian and repressive mindset which has proved counterproductive.
